Osborne House – find out more here
It was a sizzling start to eventing on the Isle of Wight last year when the showcase event at Osborne House took place under sunny skies fitting of the nearby sandy beach and coastal resort. Eventing at the historic Osborne House, past residence of Queen Victoria, is not just about the equestrian action but also about two fabulous days out in a beautiful setting
The competition at Osborne is a much shorter and fast-paced competition compared to traditional horse trials. The day starts at a very civilised time with the dressage phase, featuring a much shorter dressage test (approximately 4 minutes), followed by the show jumping, both located on the Durbar Lawn next to Osborne House
After lunch, the cross country concludes the day’s competition with riders running in reverse order and the leaders going last, before presentations on the terrace steps
Starting at around 9.30am, the competition finishes around 4pm, enabling spectators to follow the competition through all phases and watch every rider throughout the day. There is just one class each day, with competitors riding one horse per day.
This year the course has been straightened out to create some really good flat galloping areas that were not used in 2018. Excellent viewing is offered in many places, but those on the terraces will enjoy the whole day with a birds-eye view of the action. The cross country starts and finished on the lawn, it runs down the valley towards the Solent, then heads up towards Swiss Cottage, looping back across the road with the final few fences located in front of the house.
Why not splash out and upgrade your tickets to have an extra special day at Osborne? With a Prince Albert Terrace ticket you will get admission to the horse trials, exclusive access to one of the terraces of Osborne House, and a private pay bar or you can apply for access to the exclusive Members Lounge
