We’re off to Lincolnshire Horse Trials this week and keeping our fingers crossed that the weather forecast remains promising and that the going is as good as it was at nearby Oasby, before the weather gods stopped play last week.

Three days of competition (Friday 15th – Sunday 17th) will be held on the 270-acre site of the Lincolnshire Showgrounds with national level classes from BE100 to Advanced Intermediate levels. The big venue provides ample space for all three phases of the eventing competitions with the cross country courses designed and built by British Eventing Platinum builder and B List Professional Designer Joe Weller.

This year the show jumping arena will remain on the land adjacent to the A15, but will be relocated to the hedge side, which the organisers say will offer more space for re-siting of fences and plenty of warm up areas across the levels.

In 2023 the Advanced Intermediate, was won by Kitty King riding Vendredi Biats who later in the year were part of the gold medal winning British team at the FEI European Eventing Championships and individual silver medallists.

Kitty is back this year in the same class with both Vendredi Biats defending his title and Cristal Fontaine and she is joined by a host of great combinations including Ros Canter with Lordships Graffalo, Tom Jackson with Capels Hollow Drift, Kristina Hall-Jackson with CMS Google and Hawk Eye and last weekend’s OI winner at Oasby (1), Storm Straker on Fever Pitch.

This is Ros Canter’s local event, and she has eight horses across the classes including the young horse Silvesters Finesse in the Novice, another winner at Oasby (1), and Pau winner Izilot DHI in the Open Intermediate.

Tim and Jonelle Price are making the trek north again from Chedington (which is now the home of three amazing eventing riders again – yay for Burto the eventer again!) and Tim has a pair of 5* winners entered with Coup De Coeur Dudevin, (a previous horse of Burto’s), Falco (who scored a 19.8 in the dressage at Tweseldown last weekend) along with Vitali and Happy Boy in the Open Intermediate.

World Number One Oliver Townend has already had a good start on Ballaghmor Class this year, winning the OI at Poplar Park on the first weekend of the season and is back at Lincolnshire with the big grey, who won here last year, and a younger grey, the Maryland CCI5* runner-up Cooley Rosalent, both in the OI.
