The fourth leg of the FEI Eventing Nations Cup is set to take place at LOTTO Strzegom Horse Trials, Morawa, Poland this week from 22nd – 25th June.
280 horse-and-rider combinations representing 25 countries will compete in 10 international classes from CCI1* - CCI4*, starting on Thursday with the first day of dressage for the FEI Eventing Nations Cup class.
With a chance for teams that have not yet qualified to secure their ticket for next year's Olympic Games in Paris through the Nations Cup Series, there is a record number of teams entered. 10 teams will compete in Strzegom, with the United States fielding a team for the very first time at the venue.
The four combinations selected for the 2023 U.S. Eventing European Development Tour will be competing for the USA with Jenny Caras riding Trendy Fernhill, Andrew McConnon riding Ferrie’s Cello, Caroline Pamukcu riding HSH Blake and Cassie Sanger riding Fernhill Zoro on the CCIO4*-S entry list.
Belgium is currently leading the Nations Cup Series leaderboard on 270 points, 65 points ahead of Italy and 85 points ahead of the Netherlands, three nations all chasing Olympic qualification, and all three teams are competing at Strzegom.
“We’re going to Strzegom and we’re going to win!” said Belgian rider Tine Magnus at Millstreet, where they finished in second place of the Nations Cup but Japan, who narrowly missed out on an Olympic spot at the Regional Olympic Qualifier at Millstreet will also be in hot pursuit.
Poland has been on the podium for the past three years at its home Nations Cup and last year took the win – can they do it again?
Australia does not have a team entered and now has its qualification in the bag for Paris 2024 but Shenae Lowings riding Shane Rose’s Dotti will be competing as an individual in the CCIO4*-S
