It may have been just a ‘hit out’ to get the delayed British Eventing season underway for the top combinations competing at Oasby Elite but the big names did not disappoint.

The five sections of Open Intermediate which ran on Monday 22nd at Oasby, the BEDE Events venue that many of them will return to the first weekend of April for Oasby (1), were won by four of Britain’s top riders in Piggy March, Oliver Townend, Nicola Wilson and Laura Collett

Piggy may have been busy with her wonderful (and very educational) video blogs during lockdown but she has obviously also spent plenty of time preparing her horses for whatever happens in the coming season.

Piggy won two sections with Brookfield Inocent and Fonbherna Lancer, both starting in the lead after dressage and adding just time penalties on cross country, to take the honours in the Section C and E

Nicola Wilson riding JL Dublin and Oliver Townend on Ballaghmor Class finished on their dressage scores of 26.4 and 20.5 respectively to win the Section A and B (although Ros Canter’s Lordships Graffalo gave the Burghley winners a run for their money in the dressage, leading on 18.9) and the only CCI5* of 2020, Laura Collett and London 52 took the Section D
