Emily King and Imposant were among the winners at Richmond (2) on Friday, taking the Parkers Prestige Intermediate Section A
Three days of competition saw riders take part in classes from BE90 to Open Intermediate from Friday to Sunday at the Richmond Equestrian Centre in North Yorkshire and we’ll be back with a full report from the event soon and some cross country videos

The Richmond Equestrian Centre in North Yorkshire has the honour each year of being ‘twinned’ with the massive Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials, which usually takes place on the same weekend. This year, there is no Burghley, but Richmond (2) Horse Trials is all systems go
Burghley has been replaced by a much smaller Bicton CCI5* and one of the competitors originally entered for Bicton will now be competing at Richmond (2). Nicola Wilson is one of the many really in-form British riders at the moment – she will be heading to Switzerland as part of the British team for the European Championships with her horse JL Dublin, who was originally entered for Bicton – and she is a regular at her very local event at Richmond.
Nicola will be contesting the Open Intermediate on board Hawk Eye, one of her up and coming stars, who has two wins under belt at Belsay International and Kelsall Hill International and also finished second here at Richmond (1) in the Intermediate
Other big guns will be coming out to join her on Friday for the Intermediate and Open Intermediate classes plus two Novice sections and the BE100 sections.
Saturday sees the Open Novice, Novice, BE100 and BE90 sections and Sunday has more BE100 and BE90 sections plus the BE100 Open
The cross country courses have undergone a lot of updating and investment since the new owners, Abigail and Andrew Turnbull, took over three years ago. The ground care is second to none and Richmond is now firmly on the map as having excellent going, as well as the now famous Richmond Grass Stripes. All take off and landings have been replaced ready for September 2021 and a new ground drainage system has now been finished.
Richmond has also had experienced BE rider input for the September courses with the courses designed to be inviting and suitable for first-timers, yet bold and challenging with alternatives where required. The show jumping is fully up to height and runs on a fantastic all-weather surface that you can see in our Richmond (1) video wrap up below
It was a bit wet at the May event but the forecast for this weekend is much better with sunny skies and warm weather forecast for most of the event. We can’t wait to be there and filming once again at beautiful Richmond!
