Ros Canter riding Pencos Crown Jewel led the NAF Magic CCI-S 4* after the first day of dressage at the NAF Five Star Hartpury International and it is Ros who leads the way heading into Saturday’s cross country, but now riding Lordships Graffalo

The runner-up at Badminton, Lordships Graffalo moved ahead of his stable mate and half-sister Pencos Crown Jewel on a warm Friday in Gloucestershire with a score of 24.6 but he wasn’t the only one hot to trot in the sand arenas.

Three other top British ladies put in very good performances with Izzy Taylor and Monkeying Around now in second (24.7), Piggy March and Vanir Kamira in third (26.4) and Kitty King riding Vendredi Biats in fourth (26.5)

Ros and Pencos Crown Jewel now hold fifth place (27.5) and the British female stronghold is rounded out with Sarah Bullimore riding Corouet in sixth (27.9) before Tom McEwen gets a look in with Bob Chaplin in seventh (28.1). Tom is also riding MHS Brown Jack but has withdrawn his Tokyo medal winner, Toledo De Kerser

Australia’s Bill Levett is a little further down the leader board riding RNH Tom Tom R (51st), Sligo Candy Cane (78th) and Loxleys Last Stand (81st) and New Zealand’s Bundy Philpott riding Henton First Lady is in 72nd place in this massive class brimming with talent

China’s Alex Hua Tian riding Jillsonne van Bareelhof (25.4) still leads the China’s Alex Hua Tian leads the NAF Superflex CCI3-L with Tom Woodward on Low Moor Lucky also maintaining second (26.2) but Stephen Heal on I Diablo Joe has moved into third (27.4)

The NAF M Power CCI2*-L is also still led by Jason Wood riding Nitor (28.9) but Kitty King has moved into second place on board RHS Monbeg Marshall, dangerously close behind on 29.4 and Louise Bradley is also hot on their heels riding Ardeo Mandela (29.6)

With the hot weather continuing and temperatures forecast to be around 33 degrees over the next two days, the team at Hartpury has been working with FEI officials to ensure the most comfortable conditions possible

Cross country will now start on Saturday at 7:30am for the CCI2* class and show jumping begins at 8am for the CCI4* with courses being slightly shortened, enabling the Finish line relocated to the shade of the woods

“The very best veterinary and medical officials are always on hand at FEI and BE events and we will have additional support staff and volunteers in place. The cross country track has been well maintained and watered in the run-up to this event, ensuring the best possible going despite the region's dry conditions” say the organisers
