In 2018 24-year-old Saskia Davies finished sixth in the TopSpec Challenge for The Corinthian Cup but this year she took all the trophies, including the local rider trophy which she won last year, making it quite a swag to take home.
The Corinthian Cup is a restricted amateur Novice Championship that was introduced to the Festival in 2015 and, in order to take part, riders must not have competed at Intermediate level in the current or preceding five years. Local rider Saskia, who is from Tibberton in Gloucestershire and works part-time in events management, led the competition after the dressage on her ‘chilled out’ 14 year old gelding Singing Usk with a score of 26.3 and dropped to third after rolling a pole in the show jumping but “being in third place after the show jumping gave me something to chase and I knew this was going to be a test of time”
The pair blitzed around the cross country to finish on a score of 30.3 (watch their winning XC ride here) ahead of Anna Stillwell riding Rhode Island 19 (31.1) and Sophie Byford in third place (32.1) on Karen Fiske’s Handsome.
Saskia and Singing Usk now head to the Pony Club Championships at Cholmondeley Castle to see if they can add another prestigious title to their bag of goodies!
