Piggy French added yet another win to her 2019 swag, taking the CCI3*-S Section A at Barbury International on Saturday on board Brookfield Quality, making this the horse’s fifth win this season. Piggy added nothing to her dressage score of 28.6 to move ahead of Adam Harvey, who must be cursing the rolled pole in the show jumping, as he also produced a double clear cross country round to finish in second place on 30.4.
New Zealand’s Mark Todd and his experienced Leonidas II took third place, also on their dressage score of 30.6
Another New Zealander and the ‘King of Barbury’, Andrew Nicholson added to his win on Friday by taking the CCI3*-S Section B on As Is. Few riders made the optimum time on cross country but Andrew came close with just 1.2 time penalties added to his dressage score to finish on a score of 28 ahead of Piggy French on Brookfield Inocent (29) and Laura Collett on Sir Papillon in third place (29.40)
In the CCI4*, young Mollie Summerland holds the lead after both days of dressage on board the flamboyant Charly Van Ter Heiden (23.8), several penalties ahead of her mentor Pippa Funnell riding MGH Grafton Street (27.1) and Liz Halliday-Sharp on Deniro Z (27.5)
