The very attractive I Diablo Joe, who had such a good season with Piggy March last year, added a win in the Open Novice Section A to his CV at Cirencester Park on Saturday but this time under his new rider, Steve Heal, who piloted Quidam De Luxe to become the 2021 British 7-Year-Old Championship at Osberton.
A new ride for this season, the pair seemed to have gelled quickly as I Diablo Joe added nothing to his dressage score of 26.5 for the win and Steve also took a win in the Novice Section E riding Hagonda
Young Kiwi riders were in the top six in both of these classes with Ginny Thompson riding Katchafire the runner-up to Steve in Section E and Sam Lissington taking fifth place in the Section A on Senor Crocodillo
Tina Cook’s daughter Isabelle has recently taken over the ride on her mum’s Mexican Law and they had their first win of the year in the Open Novice U18 Section C while Daisy Amin riding the (seemingly somewhat unfairly named) Jack Ass won the Open Novice U18 Section D
In the Intermediate classes Victor Burtin continued his winning ways from , taking the Intermediate Section G on board Sir Corcelot (Sam Lissington also featured in this class with Ricker Ridge Ricochet in fifth place) while the 14.2h stallion Prometheus II jumped his socks off for Melissa Joannides to win the Intermediate Novice Section F
More Novice classes take place on Sunday, along with the Advanced Intermediate featuring various Badminton-bound combinations including Australia’s Sammi Birch on Hunter Valley II and Finduss PFB, Tom McEwen on Toledo De Kerser and CHF Cooliser, Zara Tindall on Class Affair and New Zealand’s Lauren Innes riding Global Fision M, riding under the Kiwi flag for the first time thanks to her father’s nationality
An extra day has also been added to the fixture with more Open Intermediate and Novice classes taking place on Monday - keep checking back for our daily updates and full report next week
