Wet weather and ground conditions forced the cancellation of Friday competition at Cirencester Park (1) Horse Trials and, with it, a chance for many to give their top horses a much needed run before the Eventing Spring Carnival at Thoresby Park or as part of their preparation for Badminton

Musketeer Events did a great job of communicating with everyone via social media and thankfully, Saturday went ahead as planned. While Friday would have seen the big names in the Open Intermediate section, it was mainly Novice classes on Saturday, although Oliver Townend yet again managed to take the Intermediate section of the day. This time it was on one of his up and coming stars, Finley Du Loir, finishing on a very impressive score of 21.6, while Rebecca Gibbs won the Intermediate Novice on Coirban Sarco Delux

New Zealand’s latest addition to the Kiwi camp, Lauren Innes won the Novice Section K riding Camee De Muse. Lauren is a busy lady who manages to balance her riding with a full-time job as an accountant, so only has a small team of horses. Despite that, she is heading to her second Badminton with her top horse Global Fision M and the seven-year-old Camee De Muze is showing lots of promise with his win at Cirencester Park

Oliver Townend also took the Novice Section L on Gentle Lion, Ireland’s Padraig Mccarthy won the Novice Section  on MGH Zabaione, Beatrice Montgomerie and Jag Womaniser Lady won the Open Novice J and Josh Haynes riding Voights Anky Panky took the Open Novice I (with a familiar combination of Nicholson riding Andrea BT4 in second place, but this time it’s Lily Nicholson, Andrew’s daughter taking the ribbons)

There is more rain forecast overnight for Cirencester so a call will be made early on Sunday morning regarding the ground conditions. Let’s hope the Advanced and Open Intermediates get a run on the last day at Cirencester Park (1)
