Chris Burton finished second in the CIC2* on his Australian thoroughbred TS Jamaimo but was also busy on his younger horses
Saturday at the South of England saw some young talent in the field and Chris Burton’s stallion taking a win
Chris won the BE100 Section A at the South of England on Cyprian, a six year old stallion owned by Chris, on a score of 24.3 having added only 0.8 time penalties
“He is a lovely little person. We are really excited about him” said Chris of the young stallion who started his stud duties the week after his win
Second place went to Shag Rocks (I can’t believe that name has come up after talking about a stallion) ridden by Adam Trew 27.1. Adam also added 0.8 time but had one rail in show jumping and Chris also finished in third on Seriosa, owned by Chris’ Burghley winning owners Sue Lawson, Carolyn and Anthony Townsend, on a score of 28.5 with four time penalties
Cyprian has now been renamed Calibre Royale and we will be bringing you more about this new eventing breeding star soon but in the meantime you can watch their cross country ride here
Fence 15ab, the Equine Aqua Training Centre Steps caused the most problems across the six BE100 classes on Saturday with five riders incurring elimination or retiring here and fifteen picking up at least 20 penalties here. Only the riders in the BE100 Section D seemed immune to its perils with no-one faulting at the steps
Two sections of Novice also took place on Saturday with another Australian rider Brook Staples, who is based in nearby Surrey, taking the win riding Big Owl. Despite his name, Big Owl is only 15.3h but has been going well for Brook and owner Caroline Crowther in recent months with the win here and top six placings at the past three events.
Brook won on his dressage score of 27 with a massive margin over second placed Shari Butchart riding Dit Is M Dicky (now there seems to be a bird theme going on here) on their dressage score of 40.

Brook was also second in the other Novice class of the day riding Glasker Clover Girl, finishing on a score of 43.1 behind the winner Fiona Dallyn riding The African Queen on 38. Lisa Pilbeam was third in this class on Irish Honours, making it a good day for her as she also won the BE100 Section B on the seven year old mare Popstar III. This pair won the BE100 at Brightling Park earlier this year and now have scored themselves another video, as have our other winners
