The 30th running of Skipton Horse Trials will take place this weekend (29 - 30 June), having taken place at the same venue in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales during that period. Many of the regular competitors started here as children and now see their own children competing over the course at Funkirk Farm in Carleton, North Yorkshire
Skipton's Course has undergone extensive redesign in recent years. As part of their continued development and reinvestment strategy, a brand new BE80T in was commissioned in 2018 which is specifically designed to provide an educational experience for both horse and rider. This course takes advantage of the hills and natural features of Funkirk Farm and there will be subtle changes this year to the other three courses to help provide new challenges and variety.
The gently undulating track has amazing views over the Yorkshire Dales and runs over pasture land while the dressage and show jumping are held on good flat ground and the lorry park is central to all three competition areas. Every effort is made to get the going just right and there is always a contingency plan in place so that phases of the event can be moved onto alternative ground if needed
