Shelford Manor (2) Horse Trials 2024 – XC Videos here
While there was much focus on the last ever event at Defender Blair Castle International Horse Trials in Scotland, there was another, albeit smaller, event in Nottinghamshire that was also having its last hurrah at that venue.
Shelford Manor has been the home of the popular Horse Trials for many years but, with the re-location of the BEDE Events head office next year, it is likely that the Agria Equine Shelford Manor (2) Horse Trials that ran on 24th & 25th August will be the last at this venue.
Local rider Willa Newton and Bedfordshire’s Andrew James were prolific across the classes, picking up a host of ribbons between them.
Willa won two BE100 sections on board Da Vinci and Obama with both finishing on their very good dressage scores of 23.8 and 24.3, a second place in the BE100 Section H on Frankie Goes To Hollywood and fourth place in the BE100 Section G on Deoso.
Andrew had five top eight finishes, including a win in the Novice Section N on the eight-year-old Landorado, finishing on their dressage score of 27.5.
The Novice classes at Shelford Manor (2) provided points for those riders eligible and registered for the hotly contested Arena Saddles Novice League, run by BEDE Events but this year extended to other events around the country.
Vicky Hind riding Blueford Galaxy holds the top spot on the Arena Saddles Novice League after Shelford, finishing in seventh place in the Novice Section C and adding an extra six points to maintain her lead on 25 points ahead of Amy Martin riding Peppershake Z, who took fifth place in the Novice Section C, now on 22 points with one more qualifying round to go at Sapey.
The Arena Saddles Novice League then draws to a close at the Final at Osberton International (2) Horse Trials where the winner receives a brand-new Arena Saddles saddle during the prize giving in the Main Arena.
