An Eventful Life is filming all competitors in the Arena Eventing classes at Blenheim - find out more here
Wednesday saw the first winners of our cross country videos at the SsangYong Blenheim Palace International Horse Trials, with Caroline Bell and Sophie Albery taking home the honours in the 90cm and 100cm Eventer Challenges sponsored by Dodson & Horrell
This popular competition is aimed at amateur competitors and has been run for eight consecutive years at 100cm level; this year the Eventer Challenge has been extended to include both a 90cm and 100cm section
The ‘derby style’ competition is a grass arena based challenge involving a testing course of show jumps and cross-country fences with a 10cm higher show jump to finish. To qualify, combinations must have completed a minimum of two BE90 or BE100 competitions and have achieved a minimum of six foundation points at the relevant level between 1st August 2016 and 31st July 2017.
Sophie Albery, winner of the BE90, is on a bit of a roll at the moment, having recently qualified for the Mitsubishi Motors Cup at Badminton 2018 riding the New Forest pony Wayland Timberry but she is still ‘over the moon’ as she never dreamed she would win the big class at such a prestigious event
Sophie, who works full time as a receptionist and is trying to build up her own business as a beautician in the evening, is up at 6am every morning to look after her horse before work
“It’s very tough and it’s tiring but it makes it all worthwhile when we get results like this” says Sophie
You willbe able to watch the full winning round of Sophie and Tim next week on An Eventful Life XCVideo
