Belton International is traditionally a major lead-up event for the Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials but there were doubts whether it would go ahead this year after a spate of severe weather and ongoing event cancellations
However, the Event Director and cross country course designer, Stuart Buntine of Bede Events is not a man easily discouraged. The Australian born event manager is now dedicated to organising, managing and creating new concepts for UK eventing venues and competitions and he pulled out all stops to ensure that Belton International not only went ahead in 2018 but was bigger and better again.
Part of this was a strong focus on the new Tri-Star Eventing Series put together by Stuart and Alec Lochore of Musketeer Events which brings together 15 events from grass roots to CIC3* in a Series offering significant prize money and rewards for riders at all levels and new opportunities for major sponsors
As the event was being unpacked around us and the rain, which had held off for all three days, finally fell we talked to Stuart about the challenges of pulling together this year’s event, the Tri-Star Eventing Series and the testing CIC3* course he designed this year at Belton
