While the Southern Hemisphere continues its eventing season until early December, the UK and European based riders can escape the weather and have some fun on the indoor eventing circuit
The German Stuttgart Masters, which ran from 13th – 17th November, each year features the Indoor Eventing class, the Preis der Firma Walter Solar, as a rollicking pipe opener and this year it was Ireland’s Cathal Daniels riding Alcatraz, the horse that won at the 2018 Paris Arena Eventing ridden by Alex Bragg and provided as a catch ride from his current rider Oliver Townend, that took the win and the purse of €10,000
Cathal, who was busy in New Zealand this time last year at Puhinui International (our next stop Down Under) on a different sort of catch ride, was joined on the podium by compatriot Padraig McCarthy riding another Arena Eventing specialist, the 2018 Geneva CIX winner Rosemaber Lancuest. Germany’s Ingrid Klimke took third place on Weisse Düne and Britain’s Laura Collett had some fun with Cooley Again in fourth place
Michael Jung has been a multiple winner of this class and he took sixth place on Star Connection but his big focus at the German Stuttgart Masters this year has been the show jumping. The man who has it done it all in eventing, and is still doing it, has his eyes on qualifying for the World Cup Showjumping Final as a pure show jumping rider
“It’s different but it’s very interesting” says Michael in this interview with FEI TV “I really like to change. It’s nice to do both”
