We’re back in the beautiful lake District this weekend at Warwick Hall (1), a sister event of Frenchfield, also run by Cumbria Eventing

While Frenchfield in May and September runs classes from BE90 to Novice, the three British Eventing fixtures at Warwick Hall in May, June and July also include BE80 level.

This weekend competitors will be running across the sandy old turf of the traditional parkland setting at Warwick Hall with BE100, Novice and Open Novice taking place on Saturday and BE90U18, BE90, BE90 Open, BE80 on Sunday

Cumbria Horse Trials’ fixtures attract many riders from Scotland and the North of England including Team GB regular Nicola Wilson who will be competing this weekend but there is also an international flavour with riders representing South Africa, New Zealand, Finland and Ireland also on the start list.

The World Number One, Oliver Townend will be a hot contender with various horses in the Novice sections along with the in-form Holly Woodhead and Wills Oakden

“Spring has finally arrived and the grass beginning to green up” says organiser and cross country course designer Douglas Weymouth “The weather plays its part greatly in all that we do and for this set up it has once again been simultaneously delightful and challenging. Thank you to Nick and Val Marriner for allowing us to gallop over their parkland at Warwick Hall and to Brian and Diane Hogg the farming tenants for their cooperation whilst the set up for the event was underway.”

“We also welcome back the officials, volunteers and supporters of the sport albeit once again under Covid restrictions and running the event behind closed doors.  The most significant change for this running of the event comes from a rule change allowing the Novice course to extend to 3120m and the recommended maximum efforts for the BE80 and BE 90 classes capped at 23 efforts.”

We'll be back with quick daily updates, a full wrap up report next week and don't forget to stay tuned to our Facebook, Instagram and Twitter for video snippets and more during the weekend .....
