The Osberton International Horse Trials incorporating the KBIS British Eventing Young Event Horse Championships is one of the highlights of the autumn eventing calendar in Britain.
It isn’t just a big event by UK standards, it is the fourth largest three day event in the eventing world, attracting more top class riders and their young horses than any other UK event. You don’t get any better than Olympic riders and they are out in force at Osberton with all four of the Team GB Rio eventing squad competing here; William Fox-Pitt has three entries, Gemma Tattersall has four, Pippa Funnell is bringing the super talented Billy Walk On, winner of the recent 2* at South of England, and Kitty King also has four entries.
Kitty’s Olympic horse Ceylor LAN who won consecutive the 5YO, 6YO and 7YO Young Event Horse Championships here, went on to compete for Britain at Rio as just a nine year old and Kitty will certainly be another hot favourite on her horses in the 5YO, CICYH*and CCI2*
But there are also many, many other lesser known combinations who could star this weekend. The action started on Tuesday with the trot up for the first 20 horses in the Matheson Stud CCI1* - they commenced the dressage phase for this class this morning with Mollie Summerland riding Charly Van Ter Heiden currently lead the Matheson Stud CCI*(37.8) ahead of Italy’s Giovanni Ugolotti and Pro Joe (42.70)
The rest of the CCI* trotted up today along with the CCI2*competitors and Libby Law was there to capture the action
