The next three days of eventing at the Protect My Income Kelsall Hill Horse Trials have attracted some big names to Cheshire as well as a host of entries at BE80, 90, 100 and Novice levels
For the world number one, Oliver Townend, this is about as local as you will get to his home at Gadlas Farm in Shropshire and Oliver is bringing the two 4* winners from the Barefoot Estates Burnham Market International last week, Cillnabradden Evo and Ballaghmor Class, before he jumps on a plane to Kentucky to join Cooley Master Class in Lexington
Apart from Oliver, there are 22 other combinations in the Advanced class including Izzy Taylor on two horses, Monkeying Around and Fonbherna Lancer, and other locals, Paul Sims, a past winner of this class and Hannah Bate
Other local rider competing in the top classes on Saturday are Emily King and her partner Sam Ecroyd but there are plenty of combinations from other nations putting in an appearance; Australia’s Andrew Hoy is bringing his up and coming horses including WEG star Vassilly De Lassos and there are entries from France, Brazil, USA, the Netherlands and Ireland
While this April’s event at Kelsall Hill is hosting national classes, from 2020 the venue moves up to International status with a CCI2*-S and CCI3*-S being introduced following the recent allocation of BE International and Championship classes for 2020 -2025
