Show jumper Gemma Colburn turned her hand to eventing at the Protect My Income Kelsall Hill Horse Trials on Friday and is now contemplating a career in eventing.
Gemma, riding Free Jump, a horse destined to event with his owner’s daughter, impressively won at their first ever eventing start. The show jumping phase of course held no fears for them and the pair jumped easily around their first BE90 cross country course to win the Equiport BE90 Section E on their dressage score of 29. Louis Webb on Chequidam Z took second (32.0) and Sarah Hayes on Abbeyward Gold was third (33.8)
Free Jump may be heading to another rider but, as Nick Wood found out, Gemma has plenty of bold show jumpers in the stable that she is now thinking of eventing
Nick also spoke with young Isabella Jackson, winner of the IEC Equine Solutions BE90 Section F on board Talos II who sounds like quite a character! Apart from early hesitation about the dressage arena, Talos II performed well in all three phases to win on his dressage score of 27.5 ahead of Thomas Tulloch riding Bally Flapjack (28.5) and Jo Hankey on Arleys Court Jester (29.3)
