The FEI Eventing Committee Report tabled for the 2021 FEI General Assembly to take place as a Hybrid Assembly (Online and In-Person) in Antwerp, Belgium from 14th -17th November says that the Eventing Committee has agreed to the development of a FEI Eventing World Challenge and will proceed with a pilot test in three different regions in 2022

The objective of the FEI Eventing World Challenge would be to encourage countries with less competition opportunities to reach international level.

The FEI World Jumping Challenge and FEI World Dressage Challenge are already well-established. They provide less experienced riders who, under normal circumstances, cannot take part in international Dressage competitions and live in more remote countries, the opportunity to compete internationally in these disciplines without having to leave their own country. The FEI World Jumping Challenge also serves an educational purpose by linking competitions with coaching opportunities

The Eventing Committee first agreed to the development of an FEI Eventing World Challenge in March 2020 following discussions with the FEI Solidarity Department.

At the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, three new countries entered teams in the equestrian competitions for the very first time with China and Thailand competing as a team in Eventing and Morocco in Jumping
