Michael Jung and fischerChipmunk have plenty to prove after being unlucky in Tokyo
The entry list for the 2022 Land Rover Kentucky 3 Day Event has been revealed and it is a cracker
Sadly, there are no Australian entries this year and the defending champion Oliver Townend will not be contesting his crown but the line up of 57 combinations from seven countries is an impressive one
Despite Oliver not heading across the water to defend his title, there are two overseas past champions – three-time Kentucky winner Michael Jung (2015 to 2017) will be bringing fischerChipmunk FRH and the 2003 winner Pippa Funnell will be riding two horses, Maybach and Maja’s Hope.
Both fischerChipmunk and Maybach are CCI5* first timers while Maja’s Hope took fifth place at his first 5* at the one-off Bicton last year and of course Michael and Pippa are ultra-experienced at this level, being the only two riders to have won the Rolex Grand Slam
Another past winner is the USA’s Phillip Dutton (2008), who will be competing on Sea of Clouds while the inaugural 2021 Maryland CCI5* winner, another ‘Aussie’ boy (no Aussies competing so of course Phillip and Boyd get adopted!) Boyd Martin is riding On Cue and Tsetserleg TSF
Yasmin Ingham and Banzai Du Loir
As well as the phenomenal Mrs Funnell, the British line-up includes European Championship individual bronze medallists Sarah Bullimore and Corouet, Yasmin Ingham and the very talented Blenheim winner Banzai Du Loir (watch our Feature video, At Home with Yasmin Ingham here) and USA-based Leslie Law riding Voltaire De Tre
Ireland has one entry this year with Joseph Murphy and Calmaro making the journey and New Zealand has the USA-based Joe Meyer riding Johnny Royale and the World Number 2, Jonelle Price riding McClaren, who finished third at Pau last year

Five combinations will be competing from Canada, leaving the rest of field packed with American riders such as Aachen winner, Will Coleman with three rides – Dondante, Off The Record and Tight Lines, the very busy Buck Davidson on four horses and Tamie Smith who is listed on both Mai Baum and Fleeceworks Royal but Mai Baum is entered for Badminton and likely to be withdrawn
Samantha Clark will be on the ground for us in Kentucky so get ready for some great coverage and rider interviews coming up during the event from 27th April – 1st May
In the meantime, Pippa Funnell’s two horses, Jonelle Price’s McClaren and Yasmin Ingham’s Banzai Du Loir are among the many entered for the Eventing Spring Carnival at Thoresby International, UK this week. Follow our coverage there and see how their pre-Kentucky rides pan out!
