Kentucky withdraws from FEI World Equestrian Games 2022 bid

Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, the venue for the 2010 FEI World Equestrian Games, has voted to withdraw from consideration for hosting the FEI World Equestrian Games in 2022 according to a press release from Kentucky Tourism, Arts, and Heritage

The 2010 venue of the FEI World Equestrian Games has decided that hosting the Games would conflict with “the long-term goals of the Kentucky Horse Park” and limit other potential revenue generating opportunities

“We are committed to being good stewards of the Kentucky Horse Park,” said Tandy Patrick, chair of the Kentucky Horse Park Commission.  “We do not think it would be economically feasible for the park to host the 2022 games.”

Kentucky declined to bid for the 2018 FEI World Equestrian Games after Bromont in Canada pulled out, saying that it was focussed on the 2022 bid. The 2018 FEI World Equestrian Games will now be held at Tryon in North Carolina while Samorin (SVK) now remains the only city bidding for the 2022 Games.

Australia was one of the Federations that did submit a non-binding Expression of Interest (EOI) in relation to hosting the 2022 FEI World Equestrian Games (WEG) but did not follow up with a full bid at that time

The final FEI Bureau decision and allocation of the Games will be made in November 2017
