Following the hospitalisation of US eventing Olympian Liz Halliday, who sustained a head injury during a fall on cross country at the USEA American Eventing Championships on Friday 30th August, her team have been providing regular updates on her progress.
After undergoing immediate surgery to relieve swelling on the brain, there have been welcome steady improvements to her condition.
On Tuesday September 3rd, her team advised that Liz had been taken off the ventilator and was breathing on her own, saying that “Being off the ventilator means she is much more comfortable and now able to get the deep rest she needs to heal and progress in her recovery”
Another breakthrough came on Wednesday when Liz opened her eyes for a few moments and tracked movement, with the Wednesday report saying that “If all continues to progress as it is, her amazing team of doctors are expecting her to move to the rehab hospital next week”
The update on Thursday says that “Tomorrow’s goal is to begin the journey of fully waking her up and eventually getting her to sit up”
“As she begins to wake up, your messages will be more crucial than ever! So thank you everyone for your encouraging words. #KeepFighting Liz”
Hopefully things will continue to progress in this positive manner and please continue to send your messages of support to Liz and follow her recovery progress via her Instagram page here
