Alex Hua Tian and Don Geniro at Rio 2016 Olympic Games
As the Chinese New Year begins (celebrated from January 25th until February 4th 2020) Team China will be hoping that 2020, the Year of the Rat, will be a lucky one for them
Not only is it the Year of the Rat (the first animal of the Chinese zodiac) but also an auspicious year for Eventing Team China as it is an Olympic year and China has qualified an eventing team for the first time ever to take part at Tokyo 2020
While China’s Alex Hua Tian has competed at two previous Olympic Games, making his debut at the age of 18 in Beijing and finishing eighth in Rio, he was overjoyed to have his country earn a ticket to Tokyo at Saumur in May 2019
“You won’t believe how important the news of China having a team qualified for the next Olympics is for our country and we now can work towards riders gaining individual qualification, of which I am confident” said Alex, who finished second individually at Saumur as well as the team taking second place
We look forward to following Team China in the lead-up to the Olympic Games and as a little taster, here is a lovely round from Alex and Jilsonne Van Bareelhof at Barbury International 2019
