The overall layout of the Puhinui International 3 Day Event was quite different this year, which meant that there were also significant changes to the cross country course
Australia’s Ewan Kellett took over the role of FEI cross country course designer from Tich Massey in 2018 and this year he was joined by the course building team of Chris Lever, Glen Draper and Matt Townsend. Thankfully, the weather was much kinder this year, both in the lead-up to the competition and during the event /australianz/puhinui-3-day-event/ewan-kellett-new-cross-country-course-designer-puhinui
Ewan, who become the youngest ever FEI-level course designer at the age of 32, has since built many courses around Australia and overseas, with Puhinui International, an event with a big history, now on his CV
As Ewan says, the cross country day ran pretty smoothly across all classes, with four of the 12 combinations in the CCI4*-L completing with double clear rounds, one retirement on course and two riders picking up 20 penalties
