Sonja finished in second and eighth place in Adelaide on Parkiarrup Illicit Liaison (left) and Belfast Mojito (right)
Sonja Johnson was coaching in Tasmania and Victoria recently and we took the opportunity to catch up with her at a clinic just outside of Melbourne. In this video interview Sonja talks about her plans for 2014, her young horses and what the famous older horse, her WEG and Olympic medal winning partner Ringwould Jaguar, is currently up to.
Based near Albany in Western Australia, Sonja is always quick to tell people that she is a farmer first and rider second and there is apparently a very nice 7,500 acre farm for sale (however there is another farm so Sonja will still be kept busy with her beloved sheep).
As Sonja says in the interview, despite the limited high level competition opportunities in WA, she finished 2013 in seventh place on the FEI Eventing World Rankings list, just behind the top placed Australian Shane Rose in sixth and is the second highest ranked female behind Germany’s Ingrid Klimke in fifth place
We also sat in on some of Sonja’s coaching sessions and will be bringing you more about those soon
