New British Eventing Event Evaluation System

One of the topics for discussion at the British Event Organisers Association (BEOA) Workshop in January was the introduction of the new Event Evaluation system

Following a pilot project in 2015, British Eventing (BE) is rolling out a new Event Evaluation system to provide BE organisers with a complete set of guidelines. BE and BEOA have produced two documents; Events Standards and Criteria and the Event Evaluation form, making up the new evaluation system which aims to continually improve event standards throughout the country.

The Events Standards and Criteria sets out the minimum standards required to run a BE affiliated event, incorporating all aspects of event organisation from the administration, site layout and organisation to the running of each discipline, safety and ground management.

Based on this criteria, the Event Evaluation works as a reporting tool by asking a series of questions to be answered by the BE Steward and Technical Adviser. This information is then submitted to BE and available to Organisers within four weeks of the fixture taking place.

Commenting on the new procedure, David Holmes, Chief Executive of British Eventing

“BE prides itself on providing very high, professional standards relating to all aspects of the running of events, including course design and build, officials, very carefully planned and executed risk management procedures, health and safety procedures and, of course, competition management.

“This new Event Standards and Criteria and Evaluation process brings together all of these elements into one document and functions as an excellent planning tool for the organisers as well as enabling the Stewards and TAs to be able to feedback objectively to the organisers about areas for improvement to help BE event organisers continue to raise the bar of the BE competition experience”

Further to the information being submitted, each event will be reviewed on a case by case basis. From this the event’s Regional Coordinator will develop an action plan and provide support to the organising team to make any necessary improvements. As part of the BE Strategy all BE affiliated events must meet the Events Standards and Criteria by the end of 2017.
