“It’s all about making dressage more accessible”
The presentation of ‘Dressage Unwrapped’ at Olympia, The London International Horse Show 2019 succeeded in doing that with three of Britain’s most celebrated dressage riders, Carl Hester, Gareth Hughes (the Australian eventing dressage coach) and Richard Davison ‘unwrapping’ the secrets of dressage.
The ninety-minute session explored all aspects of dressage with friends of the presenters dropping by to lend a hand in the demo, including Dickie Waygood and Pippa Funnell who ‘can be a troublesome one!’
All of the video is great but the session with Dickie and BT Action Woman of the Year Pippa, who may well be part of the actual British team for Tokyo, is a must watch, starting at 43 minutes in
Some great exercises from both Dickie and Pippa (listen to the earlier interview with Pippa here), who points out that ‘it’s all about attention to the basics’ and that, for eventing horses particularly, ‘It’s very important they can think for themselves and work out where their feet are’
‘There’s something for everyone in these exercises’ says Dickie, who provides the perfect ‘eyes on the ground’ (although Pippa feels slightly miffed that her session wasn’t with Carl Hester!)
