The 2021 Barbour British Pony Eventing Champion has been crowned at Belsay International and it is Black Jacko ridden by Anna Price
Anna and her 13-year-old Irish bred pony, owned by Tim and Trisha Price, enjoyed a good start in the dressage and the second fastest time on cross country and one pole in the show jumping plus 0.8 time penalties was good enough to keep them in the lead for a win on 36.2
Maisy Spratt riding Sycamore jumped clear for second place, and it was a tense finale with Maisy just 0.8 behind on 27 while the fastest combination on Friday’s cross country, Ivy Fisher riding Smokey Diamond, took third on 39.3
Saturday was another beautifully sunny, hot day at Belsay Castle in Northumberland where the Womble Bond Dickinson CCI2*Junior-L class also completed with Phoebe Hughes and Fabris taking an impressive win, having led from start to finish. Phoebe won on her dressage score of 24.6 ahead of Ibble Watson riding Aristoteles SZ (30) and Ellie Fredericks riding Britannia’s Mail in third (30.1)
The BE100 and BE90 competitors also enjoyed their day in the sun with local rider Emma Hobday enjoying success in two of the four BE100 sections and Annie Sandell’s Welsh cob pony Murrah Hall Midnight Maelstrom, who won the BE90 Scottish Grassroots Championship at Blair Castle in 2019 when Annie was six months pregnant, winning one of the four BE90 sections
The recently added final day of British Eventing competition takes place on Sunday, alongside the many non-eventing classes, with Novice, Intermediate and BE100 classes wrapping up a fabulous event
