The Australian Equine and Livestock Events Centre (AELEC) at Tamworth in NSW welcomes eventing riders of all levels – from Foxy Old Girls to professionals aiming for Paris – this weekend.

Tamworth International Eventing is hosting its International event on 23rd and 24th March with FEI classes at CCI4*-S, CCI3*-S and CCI2*-S levels and national level classes from EvA50 to CCN1*.

15 competitors will come forward for the Double R CCI4*-S, including the recent CCN4* winner at Sydney Eventing Autumn Classic, Catie Herbert riding Wimborne Constable and Queensland’s Andrew Cooper, recently returned from a successful competition at the Horse of the Year NZ, riding Hey Arnold and Pepper Jack. With Grant Johnson in charge of the CCI4* cross country course, Stuart Tinney is taking a rest from international course designing and will be riding this course instead on board Viennese.

The Britt Grovenor CCI3*-S will also be hotly contested with another Sydney Autumn Classic winner Gemma Tinney riding PHS Hilton, Oliver Barrett riding the homebred Sandhills Briar (this class is a real Sandhills ‘Special’ with five Sandhills horses in it), Olivia Barton on APH Sodoku and Sandhills Gem and Hazel Shannon on Willingapark Chelsea all in the mix.

And down at the other end of the levels there is a wonderful new amateur senior class, the '50cm for over 50s', sponsored by The Foxy Old Girls (FOGs).

The idea formed over a glass of wine between two founding members of FOGs as they discussed the wisdom of entering their old school (NEGS) annual One Day Event! It was decided they would enter and call themselves the Foxy Old Girls since both were the more mature side of 45. Their old NEGS riding school buddies soon got wind and jumped on board, forming a core group of NEGS Old Girls from the Class of ‘86 who regularly attend events and compete together all over NSW.

The FOGS philosophy is to get out there and have some fun, encouraging each other and promoting the idea that you’re never too old to get involved in equestrian pursuits, whether by riding, taking photos, volunteering or simply enjoying the sport as a spectator.

We hope that everyone has a wonderful weekend at Tamworth, but we’ll especially be cheering on the '50cm for over 50s' class! Stay tuned as we being you updates during the event, a full wrap up next week and of course our cross country videos!
