Update 3rd June

Nicola's husband Alistair has published an update on Nicola's socials advising that

"Nic is in good spirits, she has another 2 weeks of bed rest before reassessing her rehabilitation and is making steady progress although still has no hand and arm function but good feeling , she is most likely to be here for 3 months .

We watched the jubilee together and she was disappointed to have fallen asleep, I have reassured her it was a wonderful red arrow display similar to what she watches during a Lincoln dressage test !! Al"

Update 20th May re: Coolparks Sarco

As ever, the horses are at the forefront of Nicola’s mind.

As Coolparks Sarco was feeling so good in his preparations for Bramham and as Nicola’s road to recovery is going to be lengthy , she and James and Jo Lambert have asked Nicola’s good friend Piggy to ride him as she only has 1 horse entered at Bramham. Piggy will ride Jeremy at this weekends Rockingham Horse Trials to help formulate their partnership and make their decision.

Thankyou to everyone for their kind words of support

British Equestrian Update 26th May

Following her fall at Badminton Horse Trials, Nicola Wilson was transferred from Southmead Hospital in Bristol to the intensive care unit at James Cook hospital in Middlesbrough yesterday (25 May) and has subsequently now been moved to the Spinal Rehabilitation Unit there. This is one of the specialist spinal centres in the country so will enable expert support with her ongoing rehabilitation.

Although it was a long and tiring journey, Nicola is comfortable, in good spirits and is pleased to be closer to home. At this early stage Nicola’s recovery is progressing well, with sensation and movement returning to her lower and upper limbs. There will be a lengthy rehabilitation process ahead but with the support from experts, family and friends combined with her positive attitude she is in the best place to optimise her recovery.

Nicola, husband Alastair and mother Mary Tweddle would like to say a heartfelt thank you to all of the staff who has looked after her so well at Southmead Hospital in Bristol. The care and attention she has had there really has been second to none and for that they’re very grateful.

They thank everyone for the numerous cards and messages of support; each and every one is greatly appreciated.

BEF Update 10th May

The latest update regrading the condition of Nicola Wilson following her fall from JL Dublin at Badminton Horse Trials reports that Nicola is in intensive care and will be for the next week or so. But the good news is that "She is able to breathe independently and is talking. She sustained no head injury" says the British Equestrian Federation update

"There are several spinal fractures but these are all stable and will not require any surgical intervention but will be managed conservatively.

Other acute symptoms from the trauma are being managed in intensive care by the specialists at Southmead"

Nicola was taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol following her fall on cross-country course on Saturday; her horse, JL Dublin, owned by James & Jo Lambert and Deirdre Johnston, is now back at Nicola’s base in Yorkshire and will be monitored by the team but appears none the worse for his fall.

Nicola's husband Alastair and mother Mary Tweddle say that they "would like to thank the team at Southmead for everything they have done so far. They feel incredibly supported by their eventing family and appreciate all the well wishes and messages received"

In the lead-up to Badminton, we were fortunate to visit Nicola at her home in North Yorkshire and we add our heartfelt wishes for a speedy recovery

Cross country day at Badminton Horse Trials

Nicola Wilson was having a great round on JL Dublin until he left a leg at Fence 27, the final part of the Mars M bringing them both down.
