The latest update regrading the condition of Nicola Wilson following her fall from JL Dublin at Badminton Horse Trials reports that Nicola is in intensive care and will be for the next week or so. But the good news is that "She is able to breathe independently and is talking. She sustained no head injury" says the British Equestrian Federation update
"There are several spinal fractures but these are all stable and will not require any surgical intervention but will be managed conservatively.
Other acute symptoms from the trauma are being managed in intensive care by the specialists at Southmead"
Nicola was taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol following her fall on cross-country course on Saturday; her horse, JL Dublin, owned by James & Jo Lambert and Deirdre Johnston, is now back at Nicola’s base in Yorkshire and will be monitored by the team but appears none the worse for his fall.
Nicola's husband Alastair and mother Mary Tweddle say that they "would like to thank the team at Southmead for everything they have done so far. They feel incredibly supported by their eventing family and appreciate all the well wishes and messages received"
In the lead-up to Badminton, we were fortunate to visit Nicola at her home in North Yorkshire and we add our heartfelt wishes for a speedy recovery
Cross country day at Badminton Horse Trials
Nicola Wilson was having a great round on JL Dublin until he left a leg at Fence 27, the final part of the Mars M bringing them both down.
The latest news is that Nicola is stable and has been transferred to Southmead Hospital for trauma scans and further investigation; JL Dublin was reported to be comfortable in his stable.
