“It’s a shame that our International eventing competition was just on the wrong side of the re-start date” says Simon Bates of Keysoe Equestrian Centre, which was scheduled to run its first International eventing competition at Keysoe (2) this weekend.
Keysoe is no stranger to running International events in both show jumping and dressage and it ran the very last British based International dressage competition just before lockdown but “We resigned ourselves a few weeks ago to the fact there would be no chance of our International eventing competition happening on the scheduled date of 27th and 28th July”
Keysoe, which normally hosts three horse trials a year in May, July and August, should have run CCI2*-S and CCI3*-S classes at Keysoe (2) International this week, along with the BE100, Novice and Intermediate classes and there would have been significant changes to the cross country tracks normally used, with many major upgrades having been put in place last year
But it was not to be and, like many other events, both Keysoe (1) and (2) were cancelled due to Covid-19. While Keysoe’s livery facilities continued as normal through lockdown, the cross country and arena training facilities were only able to re-open in early June and they quickly proved popular once again with riders across all three disciplines
“But it’s sod’s law” laughs Simon “The only year we’ve had three dry Bank Holiday weekends on the trot, and no-one could do anything. No doubt as soon as competition starts again, the heavens will open!”
However, Simon is confident that things are looking promising for Keysoe (3) in August where we will be filming all riders on cross country and we’ll see you out there from August 28th – 30th
