A new addition to the schedule for this year, the eventing riders had their crack at winning the very first Eventing Grand Prix Final on Sunday evening at the Theraplate UK Liverpool International Horse Show
The event, conceived and run by Nina Barbour, a past eventing rider who also organises Bolesworth International on her home property in Cheshire, featured a host of well-known riders as well as some new names, following two qualifiers held at Bolesworth during the summer
Liverpool is of course just a hop across the water for the Irish and it was Irish riders who dominated the John Oates Horseboxes Eventing Grand Prix final with Padraig McCarthy riding Rosemaber Lanquest taking the win just ahead of Britain’s Paul Sims. Padraig’s mare Rosemaber Lancuest recorded a time of 91.37 seconds and showed once again how much she enjoys these indoor events, having won the Indoor Eventing in Geneva last year at their first ever indoor start and finishing third there this year
Cheshire-based Paul Sims riding Second City took second place, finishing with 91.43 seconds as the only non-Irish competitors in the top four. Like Padraig, Ireland’s Cathal Daniels has joined in on the Indoor Eventing fun with great success, winning at CHI Geneve this year on board Sarah Hughes’ Alcatraz, who took third place at the Liverpool Show. Ireland’s Joseph Murphy took fourth place riding Sportsfield Othello and Britain’s Emma Hyslop-Webb riding Pennlands Douglas was also in the money in fifth place.
Top British lady riders Laura Collett riding Cooley Again and Izzy Taylor riding Perfect Stranger finished in sixth and seventh places while Paul Tapner revved the crowd up on board his old friend Bonza King of Rouges for eighth place.
