Andrew Hoy and his wife Steffi at Aachen enjoying some relaxation in the stands at Aachen
Andrew Hoy may not have been able to ride his Tokyo horse Vassily De Lassos at Aachen due to a hoof abscess but he did have some fun with the young mare Bloom Des Hauts Crets in the Ride N Drive competition
Andrew was part of the 2021 winning team (AUS/USA) consisting of driver Boyd Exell, eventing rider Andrew and US show jumper Lillie Keenan
How Does It Work?
- A team of one jumping rider, one eventing rider and one four-in-hand driver enters the arena together
- The jumping athlete starts first and jumps a course of 8 obstacles.
- When the jumping rider crosses the finish line, the eventing rider will start his course of approx. 12 XC type obstacles (2-3 knockable obstacles)
- After the last obstacle the athlete enters a paddock, dismounts and gives the horse to the groom
- Afterwards the athlete runs from the paddock to the driver`s waiting area and gets on the carriage
- The driver must then drive an obstacle course with cones and Marathon-type obstacles
- The time is taken from the moment the first athlete crosses the starting line until the driver passes the finishing line
- The team with the fastest time wins (conversion of penalties into seconds - 2 seconds for a knock-down / 6 seconds for a disobedience)
