Jonelle Price may have been kicking herself after having a rail down in the show jumping phase of the Magic Millions British Open Championship CCI4*-S today but her signature speedy cross country ride secured the win regardless

The brilliant mare Classic Moet moved from seventh place after the dressage and show jumping to win the class and take home a £10,000 first prize when the overnight leader, Izzy Taylor withdrew and some of the riders ahead of Jonelle on the leader board had problems on Captain Mark Phillips’ demanding cross country course. One of these was her husband and world number one Tim Price, who was in second place but incurred two run-outs with Xavier Faer at the brush corner at Fence 6 while Oliver Townend, fourth after the first two phases, retired Ulises after a run-out.

Jonelle came home with the fastest time of the day, adding just four time penalties to finish on a score of 35.6 ahead of the popular Northern-based rider Ben Hobday riding Shadow Man II, who earned the 2019 British Open Champion title as the highest placed British rider. They incurred 11 time penalties to finish on a score of 37.8
